This configuration would allow for more U and B sources that enter the battlefield untapped, unconditionally. Sea (and Watery Grave) have already been fetched out. Your Scalding Tarn and Bloodstained mire can now fetch additional Islands and Swamps, after the U. By going into a 4th color, like red by adding Volcanic Island and Badlands. Probably needs a higher land count.Įdit 3: Regarding a 4th color and its affect on the mana base. Įdit 2: Many Legacy control decks get away with 20 lands because they run eight of the best cantrips ever printed. But it could be a source for inspiration. It predates Oracle, so there's no discussion of a combo angle. Green maybe opening up a maindeck Sylvan Library.Įdit:There's an older thread from The Source about Tainted Pact control. Red giving you access to sideboard staple blasts. Both would be mostly for sideboard cards.

Going down a four color road, I'm undecided on Red or Green as this splashed support color.

Instead of having say, a Verdant Catacombs that can't fetch an Island if you've already grabbed U. Which allows each fetch to grab any color. 4 colors gives you six "on color" fetches and duals. One alternative that I've been considering, building a 4 color version. Shoring up that seems like a priority to make the deck work. To fit constraints, the legacy fetch and dual manabase has to dip into Shock lands and other alternatives. Mild spoiler for the video, the list contained within, the manabase isn't perfect. It may be stretched too thin, due to singleton construction. I don't know if this deck really does, either. But it doesn't seem to have the potential of playing and winning the control game.

What do folks think about this approach, compared to the more stable manabase A+B combo of Thassa's Oracle with Thought Lash (and Paradigm Shift, etc)? I recognize that Doomsday is significantly better as a Combo deck. Probably thanks to years past, being on the outside looking in at various Combo Control decks performing well in Vintage. There have been a couple posts recently talking about the Combo Control archetype.
